Let's talk lifespan of alternators. How long do they last?
We know that cars are important to you, so we want to help you keep them running in tip-top shape. What we really want to talk about today though is something that can have a huge impact on your car. It might seem like a small thing, but it has the potential to change how you feel about your car forever—and that’s what we’re all about here at Zappy’s: making sure your car gives you an amazing feeling every single day.
Let’s talk about alternators.
It turns out they're one of the most important parts of your car. It keeps your lights on and your engine running. Without it, you'd be stranded on the side of the road. And that's no fun! Fortunately it's easy to tell if your alternator is failing. If it is, you might notice some warning signs:
Metallic Whirring or Grinding Sounds
Your alternator is the heart of your vehicle. It keeps everything running smoothly, including things like the radio and dashboard lights. If you hear metallic whirring or grinding sounds from under your hood or from inside your car, it could mean that your alternator is failing and will eventually have to be replaced. This can also make your battery take a lot longer to charge which can result in a dead battery when you least expect it!
Dimming Interior Lights
You may notice that some of the lights in your car dim when you accelerate quickly or make sudden turns. This means that your alternator may need attention that is causing your interior lights to dim.
